Veronica Mars movie gets the green light, raises millions through Kickstarter

Veronica Mars cast gets movie green light

For years, Veronica Mars producer Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell aka Veronica Marsh have been wanting to make a movie of their hit show and finally they have gotten their chance. Recently, Thomas met with Warner Bros. executives (who had previously worried that there wasn’t enough interest) and they reached a deal. If Thomas could raise $2 million on Kickstarter in 30 days, Warner Bros. would green light the project.

The Kickstarter page was launched yesterday, March 13, by Thomas who greeted fans saying, “Here it is. Our one shot to see a Veronica Mars movie happen. Kristen is in. I’m in. Let’s do it!” And do it hey did — and quick. In less than 24 hours, they have raised $2,630,101 which is well over their goal and means that Warner Bros. is officially in.

“I’ve always wanted to make a Veronica Mars movie,” Thomas said. “I love writing these characters and working with these actors. Kristen Bell has always wanted to make the movie. Thanks to everyone who hasn’t lost faith.”

After the project went live, Kristen had the following message for her fans, whom she lovingly refers to as her “marshmallows:”

dearest marshmallows…

I am currently the happiest blonde in a hamster ball the world has ever seen. We have been waiting so long to make this movie dream a movie reality, and it’s because of YOUR commitment, YOUR persistence, that we finally have a chance. We just have one more step to go.

You have banded together like the sassy little honey badgers you are and made this possibility happen. i promise if we hit our goal, we will make the sleuthiest, snarkiest, it’s-all-fun-and-games-‘til-one-of-you-gets-my-foot-up-your-ass movie we possibly can.

I promise to give it my all. i promise to work my hardest to give everyone a little bit more Veronica, and i will be oh so honored to do so.

I only ask for one thing in return.

If I ever die, do me a favor. Go on Oprah and tell the world that I loved kittens.

LoVe to you ALL,

kristen bell

Also on the page, Thomas stated, “Keep in mind that the more money we raise, the cooler movie we can make.” So keep donating! Pledgees are promised an email for donating $10 but if they donate $10,000 or more, they will receive a speaking role in the movie.
