Taco Bell testing the breakfast waffle taco in California

Taco Bell has a solid grasp on the lunch, dinner and “fourth meal” markets. Now the fast food behemoth is testing the waters of the breakfast market by rolling out the waffle taco in select locations.

As is fitting for such a with-the-times creation, the news broke on Instagram when Sarah1ch5 shared the top picture of her Irvine, Cal. Taco Bell purchase. She later responded to a comment by saying the waffle was used to wrap up sausage and eggs.

Although there’s no official comment from Taco Bell, corporate seemed to confirm the existence of the waffle taco with a tweet today.

Food Beast also tracked down an advertisement for the waffle taco at Taco Bell in Santa Ana, Cal. The promotional poster included a picture of oatmeal. Even though that’s also a new addition to Taco Bell’s menu, no one is making a big deal about it… Multiple fast food chains already offer the breakfast classic.

To be fair, Taco Bell isn’t the first fast food restaurant to hop on the waffle bandwagon — Dunkin’ Doughnuts and Jack in the Box already have waffle sandwiches. But, Taco Bell has taken the waffle/bread concept to the next level by serving it up in taco shape. Don’t ask me why that’s logical. It just is. (People love them some unique food shapes.)
