Steve Carell stuns as killer John du Pont in first Foxcatcher clip
The highly anticipated film Foxcatcher, based on the real life story of the murder of Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, has its first clip released. As previous snippets teased, Steve Carell is almost unidentifiable as the eccentric scientist-philanthropist-Olympic wrestling coach and murderer John du Pont.
The same director (Bennett Miller) who turned viewers on to the serious side of Jonah Hill’s talents in Moneyball looks to do the same with The Office star. Miller told THR, “I didn’t want to hire an actor who you might presuppose was capable of murder because one thing that was repeated among many, many people who were there was that nobody believed du Pont was capable of doing what he did.”
Foxcatcher was originally slated for release last winter but the date was pushed back until November of this year. It’s premiering at Cannes today and is competing for the festival’s coveted top prize, the Palme d’Or.
The film also stars Sienna Miller, Vanessa Redgrave and Anthony Michael Hall.
