Pokemon Go nearby gray silhouette guide for every Pokemon

pokemon go nearby menu

If you’re like me and millions of others, you are probably currently nursing blisters on your feet from chasing elusive monster silhouettes all over your neighborhood in an attempt to “catch ’em all” in the hugely popular and addictive Pokemon Go mobile app. But, unlike a lot of folks playing the game, I am completely new to the world of Pokemon, which means I generally have no earthly idea what in the world I’m chasing!

For those unfamiliar with the game, until you catch a particular kind of Pokemon, it only shows up as a gray silhouette on your “Nearby” radar screen. All you know is a rough shape and that you haven’t caught whatever it is yet.

For all of us Pokemon newbies, I have compiled a guide to every Pokemon silhouette in the game so you can tell exactly which Pokemon has you walking down that ominous dark alley at 2AM.

Before we get to the guide, however, I should point out that I have included all 151 Pokemon from “Generation 1,” even though not all of them are currently “catchable” in the app. It has been determined by folks far more into the game than I am that there are currently six of the 151 Generation 1 Pokemon that are not catchable at this time. However, some very smart folks have accessed the code of the game and determined that they are in there, they are just not set to show up — yet.

Those six are: Ditto (#132), Articuno (#144), Zapdos (#145), Moltres (#146), Mewtwo (#150), and Mew (#151).

Also, before you lose your job walking all over the country looking for Kangaskhan (#115), Farfetch’d (#83) or Mr. Mime (#122), you should know that those are region-restricted and currently only catchable in Australia, Europe and Asia respectively. On the bright side, us North Americans have exclusive access to Tauros! (I caught one this weekend and he’s pretty cool!)

To further help you out, I’ve highlighted in yellow all Pokemon connected by evolution. The Pokemon on the left evolves into the one on the right with some species being able to evolve twice.

Eevee is unique in that it is the only Pokemon that can evolve into either of three Pokemon: Vaporeon, Flareon, or Jolteon. Normally, which Pokemon Eevee evolves into is completely random, but someone figured out a trick that can guarantee you get whichever of the three you want just by changing your Eevee’s name to the following before clicking evolve:

Rainer —-> Vaporeon
Sparky —-> Jolteon
Pyro —-> Flareon

OK, without further ado, here are photos of all the Pokemon silhouettes (or outlines) in the Pokemon Go app! Below the photo is a list of all the Pokemon in the game with links to their individual entries on Wikipedia. (For photos of all the Pokemon Go Pokemon after they’re caught, CLICK HERE.)

I’m embarrassed to admit how long it took to put that together, so it sure would be appreciated if you linked to us instead of just taking the photo and posting it on social media or anywhere else. If I’m not convincing enough, surely you couldn’t go against the wishes of Jigglypuff!
