Thanks to a potentially inadvertent tweet by David Gilmour’s wife, the unexpected news of a new Pink Floyd album shocked and took the world by storm this weekend.

Gilmour, Floyd’s guitarist and lyricist, has been working on the album in secret for some time. His wife, the novelist Polly Samson (who contributed lyrics to Floyd’s most recent album 1994’s The Division Bell), put an end to that secrecy with the following:

Though there’s been no official announcement, the tweet is the first actual confirmation of new Floyd.

Further news on the flying pig front: the album will feature music written by keyboardist and Floyd co-founder Rick Wright. Wright died of cancer in 2008, at age 65.

No word on whether the album will have anything to do with Floyd co-founder Roger Waters, with whom Gilmour has feuded for years.
