PHOTOS VIDEO BIO Meet Adam Poch, Big Brother 13’s “Heavy metal teddy bear”
Season 13 of Big Brother features 3 pairs of returning contestants in addition to the batch of eight brand new houseguests who will be competing for the $500,000 grand prize. The returning guests won’t be announced until the show premieres Thursday, July 7 at 9/8c on CBS, but we do have the names of the newbies and so far have profiled all but one.
Last on the list of contestants is unarguably the most eccentric of the bunch – at least based on first impressions. Meet Adam Poch, a 39-year-old “music inventory manager” originally from East Brunswick, New Jersey and currently living in Hoboken
Adam is a heavy-set bald Jewish heavy metal fan with an unhealthy (literally) affinity for bacon. (I’ll give you a second to read that sentence again.) The earliest record of Adam that I could find online were pictures from his bar mitzvah in 1984. In these photos you can see a much-younger (and slightly trimmer) Adam looking sharp and happy to be entering into manhood. (Click images to enlarge)
Young Adam Poch embraced manhood rather quickly and discovered early on that he likes boozing and heavy metal. Here is “a very drunk 17 yr old Adam Poch” getting intimate with a bottle of Coors and sporting a Metallica t-shirt:
But even with his love o’ the drank and the partying life Adam managed to graduate from East Brunswick High School in 1989. On his MySpace profile Adam lists under cllubs: “Drunk Drivers of EB! Senior Variety Show – which was F**kin censored!”
Adam then enrolled at The Richard Stockton College Of New Jersey and received his marketing degree in 1994. While at RSC Adam shared his passion for heavy metal music by hosting a radio show called “Posse of Doom” under the DJ name “The Sheriff” on 91.7 WLFRfrom 1992-1994. (The show included a half hour block each week called “Pumping” Iron during which Adam played nothing but Iron Maiden.)

After graduating college Adam got a job in production and promotions at Energy Records in New York City. He was with Energy Records for four years before moving on to a sales and studio manager position with Trutone, Inc. in April of 1998.
In 2005 Adam left Trutone and began working for Sony Music as a “supply chain manager,” a position he still held when he left for California for his stint on Big Brother 13.
^ Adam Poch and his lovely girlfriend Fara, a school teacher in New Jersey
Adam isn’t married and has no children, but he does have a girlfriend named Fara (who is a teacher) waiting for him back in New Jersey. Above is a photo of Adam and his good-lookin’ gal, who has the summer off and will most assuredly be keeping a close eye on her man via the 24-hour live feeds! (Especially with the likes of lingerie model Cassi Colvin strutting around, doing whatever she can to take home the prize!)
So what can we expect from Adam this season – besides lots of sideways glances early on from the other houseguests? Here are a couple interviews with him in which he answers questions that should give you a little bit better idea of his personality and what kind of strategies he plans on using to take home the half million:
‘
Other than the money, why do you want to win Big Brother?
Other than winning the money, why do I want to win Big Brother? Because I want to be known as A WINNER!
What did you leave behind to play Big Brother?
I left behind a great, amazing girlfriend who is a school teacher and has the entire summer off – and I left her so I could be on the show and win a half a million dollars and bring it home to her.
How will you make this the most unique season so far?
I like that! This is going to be the most unique season ever because you’ve never met anybody like me. I’m a heavy metal teddy bear. You’ve never met anybody with my aggression, my power and yet my cuddliness.
What is your worst fear about being in the house?
My worst fear about being in the house is people not getting to know me. I’m a very unique person, I have a unique personality, and I feel like some of the people may not understand me right away and that might cause me to get evicted early.
Who is your favorite Big Brother player ever?
My favorite player ever was Janelle because just like me she was a very strong competitor, she had a great social game, great physical game, great mental game, and she was gorgeous like me.
Are you looking forward to a showmance this season?
I am not looking forward to a showmance this season. I have a wonderful girlfriend at home waiting for me and I am doing this for us. So, sorry ladies, no showmances.
How far will you go to make your way to the top?
I’m gonna lie, cheat steal – whatever I have to do to win this game. This has been my dream (to be on this show) for a long time and I’m going to do whatever it takes to win.
My favorite quote from the second interview? Adam addresses the 24-hour live feeds and every second of his life being broadcast online and on television: “I can’t help it if I pass gas in the middle of the night.”
Some random facts about Adam that didn’t fit in the bio:
• He used to play the Trombone.
• He was a Boy Scout / Senior Patrol Leader.
• He has watched Blues Brothers about 1000 times and can recite the whole movie as he watches it.
• His favorite former Big Brother contestants include Evel Dick, Howie, Ronnie, Janelle and Rachel.
• His least favorite former Big Brother cast members are Cappy, Ivette and “that whole Nerd Herd.”
• He wore a Metallica T-shirt when he went to see Rick Astley in concert Garden State Arts Center July 1989.
• He was homeless for 2 different times in his life: August of 1992 (for 3 days) & June of 2003 (for almost 2 months) He thanks god for friends with couches.
• He sat next to his childhood idol Dave Winfield at a baseball card show Dec. 3, 1983 for over an hour. That night he went to his friend Greg Fredman’s Bar Mitzvah, and every time he sees Freddy he reminds him how that was one of the greatest days of his life
• He saw Bjork at a Slayer concert, and she picked her nose.
• He’s afraid of large, barking dogs.
• He is in the Moistboyz DVD Live Jihad. “At the very end of the DVD when they show the crowd – you can clearly see the King!”
So what do you think? Can the “Heavy Metal Teddy Bear” win this thing? I think Adam seems like a nice guy and he’s definitely a huge fan and connoisseur of the show, but I think that “I’m really unique and can frighten you by quoting Iron Maiden lyrics” mentality might put people off early. Of course, I’m guessing Adam won’t be viewed as much of a threat early on so maybe he will be able to stick around and maybe he can work some teddy bear magic – who knows?
