PHOTO NME can’t tell Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette apart
Here’s further evidence that British music journalists think all female American alternative pop stars in their 30s with critically-acclaimed mid-1990s debut albums look alike. In the current issue of NME (New Musical Express) magazine there is a review for Fiona Apple’s new album The Idler Wheel is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords will Serve You more than Ropes will ever do (Yes, that is the album’s actual title) for which they used a large photo of Jagged Little Pill singer Alanis Morissette.
The photo was uploaded by Twitter user @beccanicholson along with the tweet, “Er isn’t that Alanis Morissette? *lilithfairface*” I suppose it would be fitting to insert the inapplicable “Isn’t it ironic?” question in here somewhere. Or at least “NME, You-u, you-u, you-u oughta know” better!
Here are side-by-side photos of Alanis and Fiona (with labels!) for comparison:
So far there has been no official comments from either NME or Fionalanis Morissapple camps.
*** Yes, this post is purely motivated by blogger schadenfreude. I still remember the time I mixed up Khloe and Khourtney. Oof! I didn’t think the commenters would ever let that one go!
And just in case you were actually wondering about Fiona Apple’s new album with the hard to remember title, it seems the NME writer liked it.
“The lyrics may emerge from a bottomless pit of despair, but they float bewitchingly on some sublime music.”
Of course, this is assuming he/she wasn’t actually listening to the new Alanis record Havoc and Bright Lights, which isn’t due to be released until August 28, 2012.
