Mug shot photos of Waco Twin Peaks shooting motorcycle gang members
More than 170 people were charged in the wake of Sunday’s biker gang shootout at a Twin Peaks Restaurant in Waco, Texas. The violence left 9 people dead and 18 injured.(Mug shot photos of 40 of those arrested can be seen above.)
Processing the massive influx of inmates has been a “slow and tedious process” says McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara, but the last of those charged were processed Monday morning.
As you might imagine, in addition to the bureaucratic nightmare of processing that many bookings, prison officials had to deal with five different gangs that obviously do not get along. McNamara said the members of rival gangs would be kept separate: “We’re not going to let them intermingle for the safety of the officers and for the safety of the prisoners.”
Each of those arrested have been charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and are currently being held on one million dollar bonds each. Judge W.H. “Pete” Peterson set the bond and defended the high-dollar amount. “I think it is important to send a message,” he said. “We had nine people killed in our community. These people just came in, and most of them were from out of town. Very few of them were from in town.”
The biker gangs reserved the patio at the Twin Peaks establishment. The Hooters-esque breastaurant features scantily clad female staff, and police were aware there might be a problem. Bikers had been frequenting the Waco Twin Peaks–which is located right off Interstate 35 in central Texas between Austin and Dallas–for months, during which time there had already been multiple fights and altercations.
Police officials claim they contacted local and national Twin Peaks representatives in hopes of preventing Sunday’s meeting for safety concerns, but a Twin Peaks representative denied those claims in a statement:
It is important to clarify that, to the best of our knowledge, law enforcement officials did not ask either the Waco restaurant operator (with whom they spoke several times) or the Twin Peaks franchisor to cancel the patio reservation that was made on Sunday. Based on the information to date, we also believe that the violence began outside in the area of the parking lot, and not inside our restaurant or on our patio, as has been widely reported.
Since the time of the statement it has been announced that the Twin Peaks’ location in Waco has been permanently closed.
The shooting, which reportedly broke out over a parking space dispute, occurred despite the fact that police had eighteen SWAT officers present in uniform–as well as four state troopers in marked cars in the parking lot.
Although there were five biker gangs reportedly involved in the incident, police said that all nine people killed were members of either the Cossacks or the Bandidos.
On a side note, if you’re looking to buy a motorcycle and don’t mind a few scratches or bullet holes, then you may want to head down to Waco soon. Police have confiscated more than 100 bikes (and 50 other vehicles) from those involved in the shooting, and will be auctioning them off.
Here is a partial list of names of those arrested in the Waco Twin Peaks shooting from the Waco Tribune. (I feel I should point out that there are a number of women’s names on the list.)
