Call Nev and Max! We’ve got another celebrity catfish on our hands: Thomas Gibson, who stars as Aaron Hotchner on Criminal Minds, engaged in an online affair with a North Dakota woman for nearly two years before realizing she was sending fake pictures.
Before the TV detective figured out the fraud, he sent an exceedingly awkward video of himself in a hot tub to the catfish. The video and original story were obtained by TMZ.
According to TMZ, the cyber fling began two years ago when the North Dakota woman contacted Gibson with praise for his acting abilities. The super fan also included some scandalous pictures, which were supposedly of her — but really came from a p0rnographic website.
Considering this was long before Nev and Max broke into the mainstream with Catfish, it seems Gibson didn’t know how to run a Google image search. Instead, the duped actor reciprocated with pictures of his own. The pen pals reportedly also shared videos, including the hot tub one, which Gibson shot while on a family vacation in Utah last Christmas. He was there with his wife of 20 years and three children.
When Gibson figured out the charade last spring, his lawyers sent a letter to the woman and demanded she cut off contact. She shared the story with TMZ, but asked for her name and age to be withheld. That’s a shame, because this would surely make for a good sit-down chat with Nev and Max!
