Man assaults wife for not liking his Facebook status

Benito Apolinar attacks wife for not liking his Facebook status

Just a heads up to anyone out there who is a friend of Benito Apolinar of Pecos, Texas – if he posts a status update on Facebook, make sure you click “like!”

That’s a lesson Benito’s estranged wife, Dolores Apolinar, learned the hard way after her drunken hubby allegedly attacked her in her home for failing to like his status update about the anniversary of his mother’s death. Benito, 36, was eventually arrested and booked on a charge of battery on a household member.

According to the complaint, Benito and his wife had recently separated after fifteen years of marriage. They shared two children and the incident occurred Monday when Benito arrived drunk to drop off the children with Dolores at her Carlsbad, New Mexico home.

Dolores Apolinar was reportedly under house arrest at the time and feared she would get in trouble if she let the angry Benito into the residence. Benito refused to leave and the two began to argue. There was a good bit of yelling just before Benito entered the home and allegedly pulled Dolores’ hair and punched her in the cheek.

Benito was then arrested and booked on the battery charge, to which he has plead not guilty.

The complaint describes what went down during the altercation, citing the Facebook post as the impetus. Benito told his wife that “he had so many comments on his status” and he was upset that she didn’t respond to the post.

“That’s amazing everyone ‘likes’ my status but you, you’re my wife. You should be the first one to ‘like’ my status,” Benito allegedly told his wife.

According to Benito, Dolores hit him near his eyebrow with her cell phone and also hit herself in the face. Police at the scene reported Dolores had a red mark on her cheek and Benito had a scratch on his eyebrow.
