Katy Perry debuts “Roar: Burning Baby Blue” video teaser from Prism

Katy Perry Prism cover new look

Since surviving her heart-breaking split from husband Russell Brand, singer Katy Perry has seemed to go through a bit of a metamorphosis, and as a result she has suggested that her new album Prism (due out on October 22) will have some more mature and darker themes than some of her previous fun-spirited (and smash hit!) pop singles. Today the 28-year-old singer provided a literal illustration of the changes in store with a new video promoting the first single “Roar” in which she sets fire to her blue wig!

The clip is titled “Roar: Burning Baby Blue” and it reveals that the “Roar” single will be released August 12. I’m sure most Katy Perry fans are excited to hear the new direction for Katy, but I’m guessing some are already lamenting the passing of Baby Blue, whipped cream spewing bras (count me in!), and the brilliantly catchy candy pop songs that are the perfect soundtrack to having a good time and being just a little less serious for a while. Among those I’m sure are mourning the loss of Baby Blue? The Popcats!

Katy Perry Popcats Lulu Widget Boodles

So far all has been silent from Lulu, Widget and Boodles about the burning of Baby Blue.

All has not been silent from Katy Perry’s stylist Johnny Wujek, however! He says of Katy’s new Prism look, “It’s going to be amazing. Forget about the candy and all that stuff and take it to the next level. She’s grown up.” The photo at the top of this post is new, and I’m assuming that is part of Katy’s more mature Prism look. (Which is damn hot yo! But, “immature” Katy was pretty damn hot too!)

Katy Perry song co-writer Bonnie McKee has also talked about the “new” Katy and what fans can expect from the music itself. “It’s kind of like a more grown-up Katy, I think… It’s different. It doesn’t sound like the California Gurls of yesterday. It has that same kind of energy, but it has a little twist of darkness and perseverance behind it.”

I’m pretty excited to hear it! then again, it could just be these Katy withdrawals I’ve been suffering from for months speaking. Give me muh Katy fix already! 🙂
