Justin Bieber addresses recent issues, says he wants to be a “good role model”

Justin Bieber has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons lately. From a nightclub brawl to a vulgar caught-on-camera feud with a London photographer, the pop star’s image seems to be in serious jeopardy — and the battery charges being brought against him aren’t helping. Now that he’s back in the states, Justin is getting back into his groove and speaking out about his recent antics and how he’s still a good dude.

“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a bad person,” Justin reveals in an all new interview with Us Weekly. “I get upset about that. I have a big heart. I want to be a good role model, but some people want me to fail. I’m young and I make mistakes. That’s part of growing up.”

Among what some may call mistakes are Justin’s odd wardrobe (and lack of wardrobe) choices in London. For starters, Justin was spotted wearing a gas mask while out on the town, but he claims it was all just a joke among friends. “I wanted to hide my face from all the cameras,” he explains. “They got it as a joke. My friends and I like messing around.” As for his shirtless appearance, Justin says, “I still had part of my tour wardrobe on and was rushing into my hotel.”

Also in London, Justin was late to a concert and then just days later, he fainted on stage. “I passed out from the flu,” Justin states. “The worst thing to me is disappointing my fans — we only had five songs left — so they gave me oxygen, and I decided to finish the show and then go to the hospital. The show must go on.”

“I know who I am and I’m not gonna let negativity towards me bring me down. I’m a positive person and I plan on staying that way,” Bieber says. “This business can break you down, but I have a strong team around me, and my family and all the fans. The love overcomes the negativity. I’m not perfect but I’m growing and trying to be better everyday. That’s part of life. I’m young and I want to have fun. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.”

Regarding what’s next for the Biebs, he says, “I’m thinking about my next album, next tour. Or maybe I’ll take a break. I’m figuring it out. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do at 19?”
