Joan Rivers on life support, family weighs options
Iconic comedian Joan Rivers, 81, is on life support on a New York hospital following complications from her Thursday heart attack.
Rivers has been in a medically-induced coma since she was admitted to the hospital on Thursday. She went into cardiac arrest during throat surgery at a clinic on the Upper East Side.
Daughter Melissa says she and the rest of her family are “keeping their fingers crossed” that Rivers’ condition will improve. For now, doctors are monitoring her situation, and will keep her in her coma until signs of improvement.
But reports are now surfacing that the family has begun to agonize over the question of switching off Rivers’ life support should it become clear that she wouldn’t be able to enjoy a “full and active life.”
