Folsom Pwison Bwues [Video]

Folsom Pwison Bwues by Wesley Cash

Check out this little boy layin’ the smack down on the Johnny Cash classic “Folsom Prison Blues!”

I don’t care too much for much Johnny Cash covers, and unless they’re my nieces I usually don’t have much tolerance for kids sangin’ either, but this combination is one of those rare instances when two wrongs do make a right! This is 5-year-old Wesley performing at the 2009 Spring Coffee Shop Jam, at The Columbia City Theater in Seattle, WA. According to youtube, “the Jam’s a chance for Heartwood Guitar Instruction students to showcase their talents.”

My two favorite parts were when he sang:

When I was just a baby
My momma told me son
Always be a good boy
Don’t ever play with guns

And then there was “Pwobly drinkin’ coffee.”

Here’s a quote about Wesley from the the Heartwood Guitar blog:

Many people, including my mom, are unsettled by a kid this young performing such grim material. But I don’t see it as a problem. For one thing, you can’t keep water from running downhill. Wesley LOVES Johnny Cash, and it would be pointless to try to change his tastes…Anyway, Wesley is a wonderful kid who has never been to Reno.

KUDOS! Everyone needs to send their kids to the Heartwood Guitar Instruction School!
