DASH Dolls’ Malika Haqq arrested for DUI after crash
DASH Dolls star Malika Haqq was more of a CRASH Doll Thursday morning in Los Angeles. The 32-year-old reality star and professional Khloe Kardashian bestie was involved in an accident on the 101 freeway in North Hollywood early in the morning on Thursday. Officers received a call about the accident at approximately 3AM and found Malika and her black Mercedes at the scene, noting that she “had objective symptoms of intoxication” in the police report.
Malika was given a field sobriety test, which she failed. According to online records, she was arrested at 4:18AM and booked at Valley Jail in Van Nuys, California, at 5:37AM. She was released before noon on her own recognizance after posting a $30,000 bond.
Prior to the crash, on Wednesday night, Malika was reportedly at a party celebrating the birthday of friend Dominique La Fargue.
Malika has remained silent since the arrest, but her twin sister, and DASH Dolls co-star, Khadijah Haqq McCray issued this statement to E! News:
We all go through rough patches and this has been a difficult year for my sister. Malika understands the gravity of her actions and deeply apologizes. At this time, we will deal with this as a family.
UPDATE – Malika Haqq has since issued a statement about her arrest:
I never imagined I would have to apologize for poor behavior and today I am thankful to be alive to say I’m sorry for my actions. My bruises don’t meet my shame. Learn from the error in my ways… Save others, Save yourself. #BeSafe
On a side note, Malika and Khadijah’s interview with XO Necole was published earlier today in which they answered a number of questions, including the most commonly asked one: What do the Haqq sisters actually do?
In case you are not a viewer of DASH Dolls or Keeping Up With the Kardashians (or any of the show’s other four spin-offs), it appears as though the Haqq sisters once tried their hand at acting, but that didn’t really go anywhere, so now they are somehow just professional besties for the Kardashians. Although they are credited with running the DASH Dolls store featured in the newest KUWTK spin-off, if you watch the show, it really seems like the title is just made up and they are just there so they can be in the show.
Surprisingly, in the XO Necole interview, Malika and Khadijah seem to confirm the impression.
Khadijah: [Kim, Khloé and Kourtney] all have very busy schedules, but the DASH boutique is very important to them so they asked Malika and I to be their eyes and ears when they couldn’t be in the store. If something were to go wrong, they wanted to know they had two people they could trust that could take care of it and that’s how it started. It was a show without cameras. They wanted us to be involved with the store and there to wrangle the girls. It was their idea to create the show and that’s why they’re Executive Producers of the series. I don’t think we’d be doing reality if it weren’t for them and the opportunity that they entrusted us with and wanted to extend to us.
Malika: People ask me all the time, ‘What do you do?’ I’ve been on the same show [Keeping Up With The Kardashians] for eight years, that’s what I do! On top of that, I didn’t really want to have an acting career by myself, I was so used to doing it with my sister. I pretty much went from one security blanket to the next. I was comfortable working with her and when I wasn’t doing that anymore, I was comfortable working with my best friend. I also assisted Khloé for a while. I was on the Khloé & Lamar spin off, I was in several episodes of Kourtney & Kim Take Miami. I’ve always been in a reality space. I did a movie called Somebody Help Me 2. That was the only film role I took once I stopped acting with my sister.
DASH Dolls airs Sunday nights at 9/8c on E!
