Brody Jenner says Bruce Jenner wasn’t a good father to him
The Hills star Brody Jenner has been avoiding appearing on his father and step-family’s show Keeping Up With the Kardashians for years, but he finally decided join them and use the opportunity to mend a broken relationship with his dad Bruce Jenner.
After a taped family dinner, Brody pulls a reticent Bruce aside to tell him how he feels. “It’s interesting to watch how you are with the girls,” Brody tells his dad. “Because it’s like, something I’m not really used to. You weren’t around since I was a kid and it’s like . . .” Then Bruce interrupts briskly “Now’s not the time to talk about it.”
Brody says during interview, “I think Bruce is an incredible human being and I think that Bruce is an incredible father, he just wasn’t a great father to me.”
Later, the two talk it out:
Brody: “It was really tough, not having a dad around.”
Bruce: “And it was tough not being there.”
Brody: “I’m not mad anymore, I’m not resentful, I’m just more ‘What’s done is done, the past is the past.'”
Bruce: “We’ve both missed out on a lot.”
Brody: “I agree. I totally understand where you’re coming from. Going forward from now I think that we should just work on establishing a better relationship, and be honest with each other because life isn’t getting any longer. I want to feel like I knew my father. I really do.”
Brude (in interview:) “I resented Bruce for a long time, and I feel like I missed out on so much.”
Brody’s mom Linda Thompson tweeted support for her son Thursday “I commend Brody’s honesty. There is too much hypocrisy in this world.”
