VIDEO Gold Rush Season 6 preview trailer and premiere date

Gold Rush Todd Hoffman scream

Christo Doyle, Gold Rush Executive Producer and host of The Dirt, ended months of speculation by taking to Twitter and Periscope to announce the Gold Rush Season 6 premiere dates for the US and the UK! Plus, he revealed a two-minute preview trailer for what looks to be yet another dramatic season chock full of drama, blunders–and, of course, GOLD!

“I know everyone has been clamoring for our premiere date,” Christo said during his Periscope broadcast. “I’m here to announce that we are launching a two-hour premiere of Gold Rush on October 16. So at 9 o’clock on October 16 will be the two-hour premiere of Gold Rush. Before that, at 8 o’clock, will be a premiere of The Dirt. That’s the big news!”

But Christo wasn’t done doling nuggets of wonderful information. “For multiple years now,” he shared, “Meagan and I have been trying to figure out how we can push international groups to air as close to the US premiere date as possible so that you guys don’t get any spoilers–and [now] we have—the UK and Ireland are going to be airing close to the US premiere this year….The big premiere date for the UK is October 20. So just four days after you guys will finally be in lock step with us. That’s a huge victory.”

Think Christo was done? You need to check your sluice box, boys, because there was one huge nugget left! “The other news is that we do have a two-minute sneak peek that is out….That’s a really cool little sneak peek, a little taste of what you’re going to get this season of Gold Rush.”

Here’s the clip:

Here are some of the things we can expect, judging from the Gold Rush Season 6 preview trailer:

• Todd and Jack Hoffman add another generation to the Hoffman crew as Todd’s son Hunter Hoffman joins them on their massive Yukon claim.

• Gene Cheeseman leaves Parker Schnabel’s crew to live on a boat…Tony Beets’ boat! Also known as “The Dredge.”

• Parker brings on a lot of new crew members, including a woman!

• Tony Beets orders Parker off his claim, causing Parker to seek advice from the show’s biggest star, Grandpa John Schnabel.

After making his announcements on Periscope, Christo Doyle stuck around for a while answering viewers’ questions. I’ve compiled some highlights from the candid-as-usual Christo:

One viewer asked about the camera-mounted drones used on the show, and Christo pointed out that gold mining isn’t sexy and the dramatic aerial shots made possible by the drones “help [sexify] that.”

Speaking of cameras, another fan jokingly asked when we could expect a lip-broom-eyed view of the Hoffman crew. “We haven’t figured out how to install a Thurber ‘stache cam yet, but we will as soon as we can,” Christo, with a straight face, said.

Christo also commented on the big cast turnover in Gold Rush Season 6, hinting that Parker might not be the only one adding a female crew member. “We have new people joining the show this year, and I don’t want to give away too much, but we do have females this year.”

Of course, he could have just been referring to Monica Beets with the plural “females.”

As you could tell from the preview trailer, Tony’s dredge plays a major part this season–something Christo commented on. “Tony’s obsessed with the dredge. Tony’s obsessed with making—kinda shutting up the naysayers. So the dredge is going to be a huge part of this season. You’ll see that in the teaser.”

When Christo was asked point blank, “Who is harder to deal with: Tony or Parker?” Christo responded point blank: “Parker. That’s easy.”

Christo is asked if he himself will be doing any mining this season. “I always get this,” Christo says. “I don’t know how to explain this. I’m not a gold miner. I’m a TV producer.”

So: what about all that swearing from the infamous foul-mouthed Viking? “Tony’s swearing is a problem, and I’ve spoken to Tony about it,” Christo says. “My problem with Tony…is the gratuitous swearing. I don’t mind it if he hits his thumb with a hammer and swears, but if he says, ‘I’m going to get a cup of BLEEPING coffee,’ I have a problem with it. So, I’m working on it.”

After being asked about Parker’s dog Dozer, Christo revealed a rather startling behind-the-scenes tidbit. “I told Parker to get a dog because people thought he was being a jerk and I thought he would look nicer,” he says. Meagan, who is with Christo along with a number of other members of the Gold Rush production team, points out that Parker loves his dog. Christo concurs: “He thanks me regularly for telling him to get a dog.”

Is Gold Rush Season 7 already a sure thing, given that it’s Discovery’s most-watched series? “No,” Christo says. “The next season is never picked up until we really get set to where the ratings are. I would say Season 7 is probably going to happen, but we never know.”

Be sure to tune in for all the gold diggin’ glory when Gold Rush Season 6 premieres on Friday, October 16 at 9/8c on Discovery! And get the party started early by tuning in for The Dirt at 8/7c!
