The much-anticipated music video for Katy Perry’s new single “Wide Awake” showed up on the Czech Republic website mixer.cz earlier today and of course it didn’t take long for it to make the rounds on the internet, eventually showing up on Youtube and Twitvid. The leak forced Katy and her record label’s hand and they bumped up the release date a day! From Katy:
“Welp. Guess the baby came early, ain’t she pretty?!…Couldn’t wait until tomorrow, so I’ll be showing you #WIDEAWAKE TODAY on MTV at 7:53p Eastern Time!”
Here’s the visually luscious, Labyrinth-inspired official Vevo HD music video in its entirety featuring the current day Katy Perry and her younger self attempting to negotiate a maze chock full of the pitfalls of success, including the paparazzi, steer-skulled hospital orderlies and fake Prince Charmings (ie Russell Brand).
Katy literally isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to offering up metaphoric commentary on her failed relationship with Russell Brand! Here’s my favorite part of the video just after she meets Prince Charming, who has his fingers crossed behind his back – that lying, cheating scoundrel!
