SISTER WIVES Mariah Brown comes out as gay

Sister Wives Mariah Brown comes out as gay on the show

This week’s Sister Wives revealed a major Brown family bombshell. While most of the episode revolved around on the fallout from Meri’s catfish scandal, the network kept showing teaser clips of Meri’s daughter Mariah sharing a major announcement.

My interest was piqued, but in true reality TV form, I was sure Mariah’s news was nothing more than a simple update about her life and a ploy to keep me watching until the very end of the show.

Boy, was I wrong!

The last scene begins with Mariah entering Christine’s house asking to gather the adults together. Christine prods her for more information while Mariah grins ear-to-ear vowing not to spill the beans until everyone is together.

The adults meet in Christine’s “library”, the same room in which Maddie and Mykelti announced they were getting married. They begin to question if Mariah’s announcement has to do with her college career. Is she transferring to UNLV? Did she get accepted to medical school?

Kody and his wives grow more and more anxious as Mariah fights to keep her composure. She’s obviously excited yet nervous as she can be seen checking her pulse.

“Okay, um…” she begins, “I’m gay!”

The adults look stunned, many with their jaws hanging on the ground.

“Are you serious?” Robyn asks. Christine echoes her comments and says, “Are you really?”

Mariah answers with a simple, “Yeah.”

During the preview for next week’s episode, Mariah, Robyn, and Kody sit down to discuss Mariah’s big news.

They agree they were blindsided by the announcement. Meri begins to cry while she questions Robyn’s support and excitement. Kody clarifies, “We’re not happy Mariah’s gay; we’re happy Mariah knows herself.”

The preview clip continues with Meri admitting, “I thought I knew my daughter. I didn’t.”

Mariah then sits down with her mom for a contentious discussion in which she warns her Meri, “I just really need you to stop pushing me because I’m good here.”

After the episode aired, Mariah took to Twitter to share her appreciation for the outpouring of support she’s received.

Despite their strained relationship involving the catfish and Mariah’s brazen coming out, the mother daughter duo look to be on good terms.

In the past, the Brown’s have stepped forward in support of gay marriage and even used marriage equality platforms as a way to combat critics of their lifestyle.

Don’t forget to catch next week’s episode; it’s sure to be a good one!

Sister Wives airs on Sundays at 8/7c on TLC.

Holy $hit. Totally didn’t see that coming. I too fell for the teaser bait and recorded the episode after not having watched in about two seasons. Hadn’t watched it yet because I honestly thought it would be nothing major. I thought maybe Mariah dropping out of school. Interested in seeing how Kody makes this about him.

    • Alisson Leech

Flinging his ugly hair around. Lol

    • barbinop

Like when the Pastor asked ” who gives the bride away” and Kody said …I do. Kody Brown her father…..um hello you forgot her MOTHER. Arrogance at its best

      .

      • phunny pharm

Uh, that question is traditionally addressed to the father. Haven’t been at many weddings, have you?

        • Deer Cam

My dad said “her mother and I” at my sister’s wedding. Depends on the wedding, I guess.

        • DVM

No. The response is by the father, but he’s suppose to say “Her mother and I” or “My wife and I”.

          • barbinop

That’s the correct reply. You acknowledge BOTH parents unless of course one of the parents are deceased

      • 2blunt2bbelieved

If both parents are in attendance the father and mother reply “we do” well at least at the weddings I’ve been to. Good for her though👭

  • Butts

I like how she announced it. She was nervous yet had confidence and conviction. Very impressed!

    • jeff

Same here! I was happy to see she was excited about it and not terrified. It shows a lot about the family she’s in. She wasn’t afraid of being disowned, she was just nervous and excited to share the news.

Can’t say the duggars would have the same reaction.

      • PaganGirl

I completely agree Jeff. The Brown family talked about being accepting and non-judgmental about their children’s lives as they grow up and this moment showed that they truly do love, inspire, support and accept their children. They’ve given her and all their children the greatest gift! Love and acceptance. You’re right about the Duggar family. Those parents would flip their lids if any child dare say that they are gay. Any child that did would be whisked off to bible camp for reprogramming.

        • PrincessPanda

Another in agreement. I’ve never understood the amount of hate and disdain this family receives both as a group and individually. Yes people have a right to their opinion given the Brown’s have put themselves out there; however, the level of judgement is incredible. I guess there’s just so many families that are perfect out there yet I’m still to meet one.

I personally think this family is quite something given the confident, polite and insightful children they’ve produced. They have to be doing something right in my opinion. Watching Mariah’s nervousness yet excitement at disclosing her sexuality and the supportive reaction she received was quite amazing to watch. At the end of the promo, when Kody hugged her tight and said something along the lines of ‘I’ve always wanted my children to feel safe with me’, well that had me tear up. Obviously there’s a lot of processing for each individual to do after hearing the news but Mariah appeared to be so relieved once she’d disclosed that it makes me think not all families would have had that supportive reaction.

Its easy to write this family off as nuts, weird, crazy but look around you and all the families that you get to see in your life both personally and in the news/media. I for one see many, many dysfunctional unions where kids are not validated and parents who need to make a LOT of improvements as role models for their kids. This family, while unconventional, have focused on their children’s well being and as such, those children look to be loved, well cared for and appear to be having a lot of fun with each other. Just look at the welcome Hunter got from his siblings when he returned home for Thanksgiving. What I saw was undeniable love oozing out of that moment when he walked in the door. But keep on hating them. I don’t think they really care too much anymore. I know who’s family I’d rather be a part of but that’s just me.

  • Charley Woodson

    Wow I don’t get it

  • Pat Brown

I think that Tony is gay! Good for Mariah and living her true self!

    • barbinop

Tony will be the next one to come out

      • FREEDOM

        AND FAT

        • phunny pharm

          And poor,

    • Toquerville Tom

Tony, yeah. And I’d have suspected Mykelti over Mariah.

  • Evita Peron

She is not attractive at all. Maybe the lack of male attention nudged her to the other team. She needs a makeover desperately.

    • Jessica

That’s not how it works. You’re born gay. The lack of male attention does not sway you to the other side.

      • Chu ♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥

Actually scientists have already proved no one is “born gay”
I’m not going to link you to any article you can just google it

        • Noxy

Actually, it’s the opposite. A friend of my sister’s works for Novartis and a panel of doctors at a convention said that they did find genetic mutations that cause it.

          • Toquerville Tom

A third hand account from an anonymous poster on the internet?
            Well then it’s settled. hahaha

            • phunny pharm

Who has it been settled by, then? The Gay Mafia?

              • BooBooBaby

I am pretty sure that person was just Joking! You know….hahaha!

        • Jessica

Lmao no they have not proven that. You are born gay just like you are born transgendered.

          • Guest

Lmao. Well there is no solid proof either that people are born gay or transgendered.

    • TA

I’ve seen this comment about Mariah before and all I can think is, how shallow.
There’s so much more to people than their outward appearance.
      Grow up.

      • dbeecooks

Thank you for your comment. It’s sad that attractiveness equals love re some peoples way of thinking.

      • Evita Peron

It’s sad to witness all of the unhealthy obese children on that show. The kids are not alright. Fat with bad skin. Victims of the bad American refined diet.

    • dbeecooks

Don’t agree with that at all. As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

      • phunny pharm

A lot of the Brown children don’t seem to take care of themselves. They may not lack good hygiene but the older girls look unclean. That’s a fact.

        • BooBooBaby

You’re right! I noticed that too!

    • Cate

Actually, she has a beautiful smile, perfect eyebrows, gorgeous skin and healthy lovely hair.

Oh, and she doesn’t say ignorant, crass, horrible things in publicly forums that reveal her black and rotting soul like you do, so I guess she’s got you beat.

Hopefully you figure out the reason for all your hate and find peace within yourself so you don’t have to insult people you don’t know to heal.

Bless your soul, sweet summer child.

      • phunny pharm

If someone chooses to be in the public eye, then people are going to comment on that person, good or bad.

      • Evita Peron

They are an obese bunch of homely children. And the born gay thing has been disproven.
Bless your sweet summer sausage waistline and moonpie shaped face.

        • Cat

Clearly today isn’t that day. You’ll get there eventually.

Carry right on proving my point, troll. Not worth my time. You’ll realize eventually, or die alone.

          Have a blessed life.

          • Evita Peron

I am not a troll. I am what is referred to as a “realist.” Take a moment away from sucking down that sweet summer sausage and google the word. The truth hurts…sorry (not sorry).

      • Evita Peron

Odd that the sum of all those perfect lovely parts that you listed STILL equals WOOF!

    • chitchat

Doesn’t the lack male attention, if you are straight, make you a spinster not gay?

    • Toquerville Tom

She was the best looking of the older daughters when the show started, but she didn’t age as well as her sisters.

      • Alisson Leech

Maddie has always been the prettiest to me!

        • Toquerville Tom

She has definitely aged the best. Which is sorta weird, seeing as her mom is Janelle.
Keep an eye on Gwendolyn. She looks better than any of her sisters did at that age.

          • Alisson Leech

Janelle is pretty to me too!

            • Toquerville Tom

Right on. She clearly lost her figure more so than the other wives. Conversely, her daughter kept her figure while the daughters of the other wives put on quite a bit of weight after high school. Now maybe that will all change once they start having kids, but it seems sorta strange at the moment.

              • Alisson Leech

Robyn is losing her figure fast. Lol

                • Toquerville Tom

                  Ha. Good point.
I guess Aurora would be the safest bet, going forward.

  • PaganGirl

#LoveIsLove So happy for you Mariah! It takes a lot of courage to open up like this to friends and family and the fact that you’re able to do it in front of the cameras is inspiring. You’re helping thousands of others who are struggling to navigate life as their true, authentic self. Go Mariah!!

  • jeff

My mouth dropped open at this part. That’s so cool to hear, but the best reactions were coming from Robyn and Kodi during the ‘next time’. It’s great to see them both so accepting. I’m a gay man, it wasn’t a huge deal for my family either 13 years ago. There might be a lot of fvcked up sh!t happening in this world, but at least stuff like this is more and more accepted.

  • CatesZebraHoodie

Not shocked. I honestly think Meri is also gay. It’s like the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about.

    • BooBooBaby

You might be on to something there!

  • dbeecooks

That’s so wonderful that Mariah feels comfortable/safe to tell her family……………….and they accept her. So many folks can’t even go there with their families or if they do they are rejected.

    • Toquerville Tom

Not so much with girls, but yeah. Most guys would be promptly escorted to the edge of town with a “don’t come back now, you here.”

  • barbinop

Always thought she was a lesbian. You never saw her dating or speaking about boys. Maybe now that she’s come out she will be a lot less miserable. Looks like no grandbabies for poor old Meri

    • phunny pharm

Yeah, Mery has no luck. Mekelty has always been a class A bitch. Maybe living her life honestly will make her a more pleasant person.

      • Alisson Leech

        Well, Meri isn’t pleasant either!

    • Renee L

She can still have children. Being gay doesn’t make you infertile or unable to have kids.

      • barbinop

True. I didn’t think about adoption.

  • AbbiCuss

Not surprised, honestly. Meri will be next.

  • Noxy

Damn. I was hoping one of the Duggars would come out of the closet. I was sure it was Jinger, but maybe it’s Spinster Jana.

    • CutePuppyGuest

Never going to happen. Duggar kids know they would be disowned. One in particular comes to mind-and no it is not Jana. Say what you want about this family, at least they are open minded enough to accept differences even if it goes against their beliefs AND they promote higher education.

      • Noxy

I didn’t say anything bad lol.

        • CutePuppyGuest

I know you didn’t. Talking in general about the Duggar family.

  • LoLo

I bet Kody is so worried his younger children will begin to think for themselves or that somehow this will corrupt them. He’s such a control freak & this is something he could not control.

  • Toquerville Tom

No wonder she was the only daughter that wanted Sister Wives of her own.

    • phunny pharm

      Haha.

  • FREEDOM

    GROSS

    SNAPPER LICKER

    • RestingShytFace

What the fkcu is wrong with you? If you’re hetero and think that sex act is gross then you’re probably a virgin. If you’re a male homosexual and think that act is gross then you are equally as stupid. I guess in short, you can take your virgin ass and go straight to hell.

      • phunny pharm

Is she not what FREEDOM said? Would she deny it?

        • RestingShytFace

Is it cold in your moms basement you illiterate moron?

          • phunny pharm

That’s a very intelligent comment. NOT!

          • phunny pharm

Talking about illiterate, did ever learn to use punctuation before you dropped out of school?

        • RestingShytFace

The act is not gross. You don’t refer to womens sex parts as snapper. You disrespectful, purposely obtuse piece of excrement.

  • magnolia123

You could tell that she was an unhappy teen. Hopefully now that she’s not hiding a big part of herself, she’ll be a happier person

  • Charlie Stevens

Mariah Should have told her mother first in private, before announcing it to the world.

  • barbinop

What’s with the baseball cap worn backwards? Is this her new “I’m out of the closet look? At least it’s a new story line instead of Meri and her catfish scandal. They’ve run that story line to the ground. Sick and tired of it already. Move on !!!!!

    • Renee L

Right? And all her tag lines on social media are about being a feminist. She went from wanting Sister Wives to being a feminist.

  • DonnaMartinIsntStupid

Good for Mariah for being her. After she announced her “big news” her interviews seemed so much more free and happy. I wonder if that was why she was so mad at Meri during the Catfish time, since it seems she was maybe figuring herself out during that time and needed her mom and she wasn’t there because she was busy with some deep fried weirdo seducing her.
