While Gold Rush crew bosses Todd Hoffman, Parker Schnabel, and Tony Beets will all be returning for the show’s sixth season on October 16, pre-show The Dirt is making some major changes as host Christo Doyle is leaving and will be replaced by TV personality and singer/songwriter Matt Rogers.
The announcement cam via press release on Friday, which included host Matt Rogers expressing his excitement: “Gold Rush has such a massive following and I’m definitely one of its biggest fans,” Matt said. “I can’t wait to dive in each week on The Dirt to hear stories from the teams getting their hands dirty. It’s the ultimate dream: to live off the land and strike it rich!”
Although fans won’t be seeing Christo Doyle on screen as host, he will continue working behind the scenes as producer while serving as Discovery’s Vice President of Production and Development. “Bro, you can’t leave Gold Rush. Stay on for another season,” One Twitter follower wrote. “Thanks,” Christo responded, “but [I’m] not leaving @Gold_Rush or #TheDirt. You just won’t see me anymore.”
Another fan asked the most burning question, “Who will keep Todd in line?” Christo assured him (and us), “I’ll still be battling @goldrushtodd behind the scenes.”

Meanwhile, new host Matt Rogers (photo above) expressed his excitement after Christo tweeted the announcement:

Matt first found fame as a season three finalist on the reality singing competition “American Idol.” He has since gone on to host many television shows including Discovery Channel’s “Really Big Things,” CBS’s “There Goes the Neighborhood” and GSN’s culinary reality series “Beat The Chefs.” As an advocate for the armed forces, Matt hosted Lifetime’s “Coming Home,” where he brought home service men and women as a surprise to their family. He currently co-hosts “Home and Family” on Hallmark as it enters its fourth season. He has also worked as a correspondent on several entertainment and sports shows including “Turner Sports College Football.” Matt continues his music career performing with his band.
As far as reasons for Christo deciding to leave The Dirt behind, he has been quite open about how unpleasant his experience was taping the dramatic live episode. Plus, Christo is a pretty damned busy man! He will also be serving as producer on Discovery’s new reality series about extreme Hawaiian fishermen titled Pacific Warriors, premiering just after Gold Rush on October 23.
Season 6 of Gold Rush premieres on Friday, October 16 at 9/8c on Discovery. The Dirt returns just before at 8/7c.
