Yesterday was Kanye West’s 38th birthday. His wife, Kim Kardashian, decided to party like it was his 30th or 40th or even 35th or some other number of great social significance. So Kim rented out the entire Staples Center for Kanye and his friends to use to play basketball.
The Staples Center, in case you are unaware, is a giant arena that the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association and also the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association use to play their professional basketball games. It seats approximately 19,000 people, depending on the configuration of the court. Kanye did not bring 18,999 people with him. But he did bring a lot of friends! Here is a picture of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian posing with the Laker Girls, who are the official cheerleaders of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Los Angeles Lakers are a terrible basketball team lately, and their season is long over, so the Laker Girls are grateful for the extra work. It is kind of funny, how the paid professionals in this picture look much happier than the birthday boy. (It is also kind of funny how Kim Kardashian cropped the bottom of the help tab into this picture before uploading it onto the internet.)
Here are some of the famous people with whom Kanye played birthday ball. Among them are real-life NBA players James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and John Wall, all of whom would rather be playing professional basketball at this point in the NBA calendar. The Los Angeles Times reports that among the famous musicians in attendance were Tyga, 2 Chainz, Pusha T., and Justin Bieber. It was nice of the Los Angeles Times to refer to Justin Bieber as a musician.
Khloe Kardashian was nice enough to upload a picture of the teams in action.
Kylie Jenner was also in attendance.
The Times also reported that it costs $110,000 to rent out the Staples Center for a private event. Here, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner reflect on money well spent.
