Will True Detective Season 2 have female lead characters?
True Detective writer and creator Nic Pizzolatto briefly tweeted a hint that season 2 of the addictive HBO show might feature women in the lead. Although the show is pure brilliance, one criticism some have had is that it doesn’t feature strong, well-rounded female characters. Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey’s characters and performances are so nuanced and masterful that this is an easy sin to forgive, especially since the show’s format mimics American Horror Story in that each season is a whole new mini-series type tale. This type of format also makes the show attractive to actors of the caliber of Harrelson and McConaughey, so the sky’s the limit with which actresses make take the helm next season.
Nic responded to a tweet from @friggenawesome:
Hey @nicpizzolatto if True Detective looked at feminine characters with the same lens as masculine, it would be PERFECT & MIND-BLOWING.
@nicpizzolatto:
@friggenawesome One of the detriments of only having two POV characters, both men (a structural necessity). Next season…
He quickly deleted the tweet, which is an even bigger signal that women characters will possibly lead the next season.
I’ll personally be sad to see Marty Hart and Rust Cohle go after two more weeks, but it’s probably better that their characters exist in this limited scope. Besides, who knows what kind of wonders await us as this show continues?
Which leading ladies would you like to see helm True Detective?
