What caused Brittany Murphy’s cardiac arrest? Diabetes may be a factor, husband Simon Monjack doesn’t want autopsy
Just a little under three weeks before she passed away from cardiac arrest, Brittany Murphy appeared at the Across The Hall premiere in Beverly Hills looking rail thin. The above picture was taken there on December 1.
The LAPD is currently investigating her death, and according to TMZ, were seen entering her home this afternoon. Since Brittany was only 32-years-old it is unlikely she suffered cardiac arrest due to hardening of the arteries. For years rumors abounded that the waif-looking starlet suffered from eating disorders or drug addiction, both of which can put a massive strain on the heart, but she publicly denied both in 2005:
“Wow. No, just for the record I have never tried it in my entire life, I’ve never even seen it, and I don’t leave the house too much, except to go to work,” she said. “My worst vice is caffeine. [The rumor is] really pretty darn far-fetched — it couldn’t be further from the truth. I have known people over the course of my life that have bad problems with drugs, and it’s something really serious.”
According to TMZ, Britney’s husband Simon Monjack has asked for an autopsy to not be performed on his wife’s body, but L.A. County Coroner’s office is set to go ahead with one. Britney’s mother reportedly told paramedics that Britney has a history with diabetes. UPDATE: Britney has Type 2 diabetes, which probably did not lead to her death.

UPDATE 11:23 PM EST – TMZ.com has exclusive sources close to Brittany Murphy that say the 32-year-old actress had been very sick the last few days and started throwing up early this morning. From TMZ: “Law enforcement sources tell us Murphy collapsed in the bathroom and somehow ended up in the shower … there was, we’re told, a significant amount of vomit in the immediate area. … Sources say her condition and the meds could have triggered a heart attack, but it’s too early to know. An autopsy is will be performed Monday or Tuesday.”
