Was the VMA Nicki Minaj-Miley Cyrus fight fake or real?
While accepting the award for Best Hip-Hop Video on tonight’s VMAs, Nicki gave a sarcastic-sounding speech about following your dreams and then thanked her preacher before launching in on an impassioned attack on the show’s host.
“And now, back to this b**** that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press,” she said. “Miley, what’s good?”
Miley, who seemed a little a thrown off guard by the confrontation, defended herself by saying that everyone in the biz does interviews that get taken out of context, but Nicki didn’t seem impressed by that response. “Don’t play with me b****,” she appeared to be mouthing when the camera cut back over to her.
The comments Nicki was referring to was a recent New York Times interview with Miley, who answered questions about comments Nicki made about the VMAs in July.
“What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind,” said Cyrus. “It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love. You don’t have to start this pop star against pop star war… I know you can make it seem like, Oh I just don’t understand because I’m a white pop star. I know the statistics. I know what’s going on in the world. But to be honest, I don’t think MTV did that on purpose.”
Not sure if this was real or staged, but Nicki’s emotion definitely seemed genuine.
