VIDEO Willie Nelson auditions for The Hobbit’s Gandalf the Wizard

Willie Nelson auditions for Gandalf You shall not pass - an unlit joint. That's just not cool.

Country singer (and actor!) Willie Nelson is a seemingly ageless spiritual guru with a beard and long hair who is constantly traveling, likes to smoke, and almost always has a piece of wood with him in the form of his famous guitar, Trigger. So of course he would be a perfect fit to play JRR Tolkein’s wizened wizard, Gandalf! Now, thanks to the fine folks over at Conan O’Brien’s Team CoCo, here is Willie Wizard Nelson auditioning for the role in Peter Jackson’s upcoming The Hobbit 2:

And just in case you weren’t able to watch the clip due to work restrictions on your computer (By the way, any employer that doesn’t allow you to watch Willie Nelson needs to be reported to the FBI and CIA!), here’s what Willie (and son Micah Nelson) had to say:

“Hey, Peter Jackson! My name’s Willie Nelson, and I want to audition for the role of Gandalf the Wizard in that upcoming movie you got going called The Hobbit. “

“You shall not pass… an unlit joint. That’s just not cool.”

Micah: “Gandalf, my old friend, this will be a night to remember.” Willie: “Or not. heh-heh-heh!”

“Balrogs are assh0les!”

“You know that giant flaming eye is freaking me the f*** out.”

Willie and Micah singing together: “Mamas don’t let your babies grow up to be orcs.

“The smoke is white — we got a new wizard!”

“So that’s it Peter. You can hire me and fire that Ian McKellen guy — he’s a good actor, but hell, I’m Willie Nelson.”

“Now that I think about it, I’d also be a great Magneto.”

Willie and Micah singing “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Orcs” was pretty funny, so here are a few more Hobbit-inspired tunes Willie might consider doing for the soundtrack:

Bilbo and Lefty
A Horse Called Shadowfax
White-Headed Stranger
To All the Orcs I’ve Killed Before
Darkness on the Face of Middle Earth
Bloody Merry Morning
Aragorn For Trouble
