Sesame Street lampoons Spider-Man musical with grover as Spider-Monster

You know it gets bad when your detractors include Grover from Sesame Street. Such is the fate of Bono’s Broadway dream Spider-Man: Turn of the Dark.

The following clip for their lampoon of the maligned musical called Spider-Monster: The Musical features a great deal of adult flavored humor as one older male attendee comes to the performance to see Grover fly but when the curtains rise Grover as Spider-Monster accidentally plummets off of the stage into the lap of the single audience member.

The old man is discouraged and says, “”Hey, that’s not flying, you just fell on me.” Which is an obvious reference to the many technical difficulties that haunted the production. Grover gives it another try and this time he is carried out by a big orange thingy and is tossed once again at the theatergoer. And this is when Sesame Street goes there.

“You must be patient, sir. It’s Bono’s first show ever.” Zing! Here’s the video:

The actual musical just re-opened on Broadway to mixed reviews at best. Maybe Bono still hasn’t found what he’s looking for.
