VIDEO: Rick Springfield discusses his own suicide attempt on GMA

Legendary actor and 80’s rock star Rick Springfield appeared on Good Morning America and discussed his own brush with suicide and his life long battle with depression.

Springfield made the appearance in support of his memoir called Late Late at Night which hits the shelves today. The title is a line taken from his mega-hit “Jesse’s Girl.”  Here is the clip in which Springfield responds to the recent disturbing trend of gay suicides and the massive support shown these troubled teens with “The Trevor Project” and the “It Will Get Better” campaign.

Springfield (61), a native Australian, gave those out there struggling with thoughts of suicide the following words of advice:

“I really would love to say to the kids on the edge, I know what it’s like. You just want out. You want the pain to stop. Give yourself a year,” he said on “Good Morning America.” “Your life will change. Nothing remains the same. I would have missed out on a lot of amazing stuff in my life.”

Springfield charted over 17 top 40 hits and has sold over 20 million albums.
