Sheree Whitfield on Iyanla: Fix My Life

OWN network’s therapeutic series Iyanla: Fix My Life returns for a second season Saturday, April 13, at 9/8c as accomplished author, inspirational speaker, talk show host, and spiritual mentor Iyanla Vanzant once again “goes behind closed doors and deep inside people’s lives for emotional, riveting conversations.” The second season kicks off with what looks to be an explosive 90-minute episode featuring rapper DMX, and then Iyanla travels to the ATL to talk with former star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Sheree Whitfield, and her husband, ex NFL player Bob Whitfield, about how to cope with being parents after their acrimonious divorce.

From the official press release announcing the new season:

In the second episode, Iyanla works with reality star Sheree Whitfield on her relationship with her ex-husband, former NFL star Bob Whitfield. Iyanla sits down with the couple to talk about the role of co-parenting in spite of their contentious divorce. Secrets are revealed, truths are uncovered and emotions run high as Sheree and Bob reveal how they really feel about each other.

I imagine this is the second season version of Iyanla’s “Fix My Reality-Star Life” Evelyn Lozada episode from Season 1. Here’s a very brief preview clip (i.e. commercial) for the new season posted by Atlanta blogger Straight From The A:

“Let me just be real clear,” Iyanla says to Sheree and Bob, “there are going to be moments today you won’t like.” Which, of course, means there will be moments that viewers will like!

An emotional Sheree confesses, “I pretended that we were happy, that I was happy.” Then Iyanla talks with Bob inside a football stadium and tells him, “You play in this incredible arena and you were in the corner trapped like a rat.”

And speaking of Straight From The A, that was one of three Atlanta area blogs that Sheree reportedly filed restraining orders against due mainly to their coverage of her infamous “Chateau Sheree” home that was never finished. The restraining orders were apparently tossed out and all three bloggers, which also includes Tamara Brawner of TamaraTattles.com and Quentin Latham from FunkyDineva.com, have since responded with seemingly appropriate large doses of SMDH.

It is assumed that one of the things that we will see on Sheree’s episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life is the issue of the local bloggers and that Iyanla will suggest that Sheree take legal action. That is purely speculation of course — but the timeline sure seems to fit.

Sheree also recently appeared on HLN’s Raising America to talk about the “reality of being a reality mom” with the main focus being on the media attention:

The host brings up the restraining orders and asks Sheree how she talks to her kids about it, to which she says, “Again, that’s very tough as well because, again, they didn’t sign up for that. I signed up for that. But what I did not sign up for is for people coming on to my property. Sometimes the bloggers, and some of the press, they — bloggers aren’t press — they overstepped their boundaries.” Not to pick sides or anything, but part of the issue from the beginning is the fact that Sheree doesn’t even own the property to begin with. Anyways…

Be sure to tune in to catch up with Sheree on Iyanla: Fix My Life on Saturday, April 20 at 9/8c on OWN! (And the special 90-minute premiere episode with DMX airs the week before on April 13 at the same time.)
