A school board president from New York State forgot the old adage, “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” This is probably a good thing because the guy proved himself to be a total d-bag.
Mahopac School Board president Ray Cote also forgot that saying crappy things around microphones is a stupid move as well because they can be hot. The Putnam County official was caught on live video calling the mother of a student a “chubby wubby” among other derogatory remarks.
Another mom who understandably could not believe what she had heard decided to partake in a little YouTube justice by sharing the clip on Tuesday:
“Oh I know – this one here. Chubby wubby, she gets fatter and fatter every meeting. She really does.”
Citizens started calling for the dismissal of Cote after the video began making the rounds and they kinda got their wish as this pillar of the community resigned his position (who allowed him the dignity of resignation – shoulda been fired) and issued a statement, via ABC7, to let everyone know that the not-so-candid remarks do not reflect his real views:
“I would like to apologize for my choice of words after the close of the board meeting on April 8th which are regretful. My words were inappropriate and do not reflect my feelings or attitudes. I will strive to regain the trust and respect of the community.”
It turns out that back in March Cote was made part of a diversity and sensitivity team. I don’t think he learned much from that endeavor.
Cote added that he will not run for re-election.
