VIDEO Denver TV station accidentally uses racy “alternate” David Petraeus “All In” book cover

What do you get when you mix a national sex scandal and a lazy editor at a local television station? An unemployed editor (probably) and a hilarious viral video!

Check out this video report on David Petraeus’ biographer and alleged mistress Paula Broadwell on Denver’s KMGH ABC 7 in which they briefly show an image of her book cover for All In: The Education of General David Petraeus – or at least that’s what it was supposed to be:

Here’s the original book cover (you can click the photo up top for the unedited spoof):

I don’t know, All Up In My Snatch sounds a lot more interesting! (And I bet it would have sold a LOT more copies! Sort of a 50 Shades of Petraeus thing.)

KMGH has since issued a formal apology for the gaff. “It was a mistake,” said KMGH-TV News Director Jeff Harris.

“It was a regrettable and an embarrassing error. We are mortified this appeared during our 5 p.m. news broadcast. The editor pulled the image of the book cover from the Internet without realizing it had been doctored. We sincerely regret the error and have corrected the story to avoid any recurrence of its broadcast. We are following up internally as well to avoid a repeat of this inexcusable oversight,” Harris said.

It turns out the altered book cover was from a Death and Taxes Mag spoof cover that was only up for about five minutes before site editors decided to pull it down, but apparently that was enough time for it to show up in Google images and for the KMGH editor to grab it for the piece.

Death and Taxes Mag did a follow-up post copping to ownership of the original image:

Ok, so here’s what happened: This weekend, one of the Death and Taxes staff took a queue from a commenter and posted an image of Paula Broadwell’s book “All In” photoshopped to read “All Up In My Snatch.”

We thought it was pretty funny but also pretty crude and in poor taste, and we unpublished it after about 5 minutes. But not before the web page got cached and the image made searchable through Google images.

The rest is history.

Of course, the spoof has opened the online floodgates for additional All In book cover spoofs, and here are a couple from us:

Now we just need a TV station to grab one of those by mistake…
