Teen bride Courtney Stodden has been obsessed with trying to look like her hero Marilyn Monroe for well over a year, and now the 21-year-old is trying to mimic Marilyn in another way: by becoming an actress.
Courtney posted a clip of herself portraying a crack-addicted prostitute named Tamra Munn and referenced Marilyn Monroe. She then revealed, “I’m fascinated by colorful characters and enjoy attempting to play them. I’m also interested in stretching myself as an actress and taking risks.”
Here’s the clip…
As Tamra Munn, Courtney tells her life story, which includes running away from home with a lesbian at eight years old and having her virginity sold to a man at a Fort Worth Truck stop for $500 so her mom could buy dope.
Courtney explains what inspired the character on her blog:
While doing some research online regarding crack addicted prostitutes living on the streets of Oklahoma City, I was moved by one woman’s story in particular. Afterward, I was inspired to see if I could ultimately do her justice by “playing” her in an acting scene. Thus, I created the character, “Tamra Munn” … and thought I’d share her with you.
So, in case you were wondering what Courtney Stodden does when she’s not undressing for the camera, the answer is apparently that she’s online researching crack addicted prostitutes living on the streets of Oklahoma City. #TodayILearned
Previously, Courtney pointed out the following:
Marilyn Monroe’s acting teacher, Lee Strassberg, often encouraged her to take risks in her acting choices. He believed Marilyn had the ability to shed her blonde bombshell image in order to dig deep into roles that she might otherwise not be given the opportunity to play in Hollywood. Consequently, Marilyn felt safe enough at The Actor’s Studio to challenge herself and play characters antithetical to her usual persona.
I’ve always admired actors who attempt to get “inside” their roles and actually seem to transform into the characters they portray. Charlize Theron’s performance in Monster is a great example. Hillary Swank in Boys Don’t Cry. Meryl Streep in Into the Woods. Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Eddie Redmayne in Theory of Everything.
Tamra Munn isn’t Courtney’s first attempt to portray a rather rough-edged character. Devout Stoddenites will recall her ground-breaking video as her own Goth half-sister, Courtland Stodden, back in 2013. She also played another alter ego, Courtina, in a different clip. Unfortunately, both videos have since been deleted and probably won’t resurface until there is a Courtney Stodden acting career-spanning box set with bonus features.
Until then, here’s Courtney Stodden on Marilyn Monroe’s bed, because that happened:
