Scottie Pippen blasphemes His Airness
Usually we refrain from writing about straight sport stories here. Now Tiger Woods scandals or Brett Favre’s Green Bay pant-packer we’ll do but sometimes I run across something that demands I address it and this is unquestionably one of those moments.
Last night the Miami Heat outed the Chicago Bulls and advanced to the NBA Finals to play the Dallas Mavericks. The Heat charged back from 11 down thanks to some seriously great play from Lebron James. The next morning the man who assisted Michael Jordan to six titles with those Chicago Bulls went on air with Mike and Mike and said this bunch of freakin’ dung:
“Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to play the game,” Pippen said. “But I may go as far as to say LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game because he is so potent offensively that not only can he score at will but he keeps everybody involved. You have to be on your Ps and Qs on defense. No guy on the basketball court is not a threat to score with LeBron James out there. Not only will LeBron dominate from the offensive end as well, but he’s also doing it on the defensive end which really makes him the complete package. He’s able to get in those passing lanes, shoot those gaps and create transition opportunities where he is pretty much unstoppable.”
I hardly believed my ears, I spit my coffee out all over my crappy hatchback. I rolled down my window (manually) and screamed out Benedict Arnold! Michael Jordan took the Chicago Bulls to six championships and that includes carrying Pippen along too. Lebron has never won a championship, has been knocked and correctly so solely based on performance for not being clutch, his own teammate Dwyane Wade is the better 4th quarter go to guy and Scottie Pippen believes that James may be the best ever!?!
Man, (catching my breath whilst boiling in hate) if any other talking head ex-player would have made that comment they would be getting railroaded but for Jordan’s partner in dominance to go there is beyond comprehension. I’ve tried to be down with Scottie but he crossed a line and he can’t ever go back I’m afraid. Ask anyone who played during Jordan’s day and they will tell you he was a top ten defender in the league.
Look I ain’t in love with the man but James is a future Hall-of-Famer no doubt. I mean look what happened to the Cavaliers after he left, that’s all you need to say about how great he is but he needs to win at least 4 rings for us to even consider this conversation. And I’ll reiterate a point I made earlier, when the Jordan lead Bulls were dominating was there any question as to who would be getting the ball when the game was on the line. Absolutely not. You can not say the same about the Heat. Maybe this fact has always left Pippen a little bitter. I can’t rationally think of any other explanation.
I kind of was liking me some Pippen after covering his lovely wife Larsa from The Real Housewives of Miami but those days, just like Pippen’s credibility are trashed.
