PHOTOS VIDEO Angelina Jolie as Maleficent in first official trailer
The newest official trailer for Disney’s live-action revisitation of their classic 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty has been released featuring Angelina Jolie as the titular villainess Maleficent — and it can only be described as Jolieficent!
The trailer begins with animated footage from the original film that fade into the live-action reboot, including the famous kiss between Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip (played by Elle Fanning and Brenton Thwaites in the 2014 version):
Angelina’s femaleficent first appearance is marked by candles being blown out in the castle after a fairy blesses the newborn Princess Aurora with the gift of beauty. “I, too, shall bestow a gift upon the child,” Maleficent says before dousing her with the silver screen’s most famous sedative in the form of a vicious curse.
Later, a teenage Aurora is shown addressing Maleficent, who is seemingly hiding in a dark forest. “You’ve been watching over me my whole life. I know you’re there,” says the innocent Aurora. “Your shadow, it’s been following me ever since I was small. Don’t be afraid.”
Maleficent responds devilishly, “I am not afraid”
“Then come out!” Aurora demands.
“Then you’ll be afraid,” says Maleficent before emerging in all her dark-horned terrortrulescence.
Later in the trailer, Maleficent deceptively warms the princess, “Aurora, there is an evil in this world. I cannot keep you from it.” Oh how right (and how wrong) she is!
The trailer also includes a couple of shots of Maleficent without her black leather beanie/horn covers, revealing her Spocktacular pointy ears!
As mentioned above, Maleficent is scheduled to be released May 30.
