Art Basel kicks off today in Miami Beach and one of the attractions this year will be Fendi’s limited-edition “retail and cultural environment” at the F Factory in Miami’s Design District. The famous bag-maker will have some of their rarest handbags available and their Roman craftsmen will be on hand to personalize them for you!
One of the rarities available include a baguette made from needlepoint panels painted live on site by graffiti artist Andre and stitched by students from the Design and Architecture Senior High. You can also buy a limited edition bag made of real gold, but you’d better hurry because they only made five and one has already been purchased by an Arab Princess!
What really struck my fancy though is the white Fendi guitar and case pictured here:

WOW! I have concerns about the practicality of the fur around the edges, but otherwise that thang is badarse! If anyone is out there looking to get starcasm for Christmas, add white leather Fendi guitar to the top of the list! I don’t know a lot about guitars, but judging by the head it appears to be a Gibson Les Paul Junior guitar – you can check out a vintage version of on at amazon.
I’ve always had an admiration for the craftsmanship of these high-end bag manufacturers, but unlike some other aspects of fashion design I just cannot get excited about purses and handbags. But, a Gibson guitar encased in leather by some of the best craftsmen on the planet?!? I can get into that! Heck – I’d be happy with just the case!
Art Basel is THE premiere fine art show in America and runs from December 3rd to December 6th. If you have even a moderate interest in art and live anywhere near South Florida you should really make the trip and participate! I’m hoping that the new duo of Miami photographers working for Flynet (appropriately going by “Crockett and Tubbs”) will be documenting the affair.
