PHOTOS Nicki Minaj Barbie doll auctioned for charity
So what do Nicki Minaj, Rachel Zoe, Carol Channing, and Janet Jackson have in common? They’ve all had one-of-a-kind Barbie dolls made by Mattel to be auctioned off for charity! Minaj, who refers to herself and fans as “Barbies” and “Barbz,” is the latest to be honored by the doll maker and her Pink Friday album cover inspired Barbie is currently up for auction at CharityBuzz.com with the proceeds going to Project Angel Food. But, you’d better hurry up because the bidding is already up to $1,100 at the time of this post!
“Barbie is obviously a pop culture icon,” Barbie spokeswoman Stefani Yocky tells Billboard.com. “She’s been in the spotlight for over 50 years, and strikes that chord with girls of all ages in terms of being representative of the times. And Nicki is a big part of pop culture and also huge within the fashion industry, as well as a big Barbie fan. It’s really exciting for us that she’s been so generous to allow us to create this one-of-a-kind doll to support such an important cause.”
And Nicki shared her enthusiasm on Twitter with her usual flair:
From the auction listing:
Hey dolls, it’s finally happened! Your fave Harajuku Barbie has collaborated with her doll idol and the result is FAB! Nicki Minaj has recently been named Billboard’s Rising Star of the Year but now the rapper, singer and songwriter is larger than life as an over-the-top 11 ½” fashion doll. Nicki’s original one-of-a-kind likeness is beautiful in a dazzling replica of the frothy dress from her Pink Friday album. She practically floats in wispy layers of silk charmeuse and shimmering tulle, and of course, she’s rockin’ some Barbie® bling!
From Nicki’s cotton-candy pink hair, to her hand-rooted eye lashes, doll-tastic designer Stephen Sumner recreated every signature detail, right down to the tattoo on Nicki’s left arm. He even hand-placed each crystal accent on her jewelry.
This a-mazing original one-of-a-kind Nicki Minaj doll comes with a certificate of authenticity and a display case that is a gorgeous homage to her Pink Friday album. Muah dolls….from Barbie® and Nicki!
