Katy Perry pays tribute to the 1980s in a new ghd marketing campaign

It was announced last month that pop singer and fantastically fun fashionista Katy Perry would be the new face of British professional hair styling brand ghd. The company, whose lower-case acronymous name stands for “good hair day,” said in a press release March 20:

“Katy is the epitome of modern fashion and styling. Her unique, ever changing looks are the envy of style devotees around the world. Katy completely embodies ghd’s spirit of female transformation and empowerment, as she is recognised as a cutting edge style icon unafraid to push fashion and beauty boundaries. Sassy, stylish and sexy, Katy is the perfect partner for ghd,” says Paul Stoneham, Chief Executive Officer, ghd.

We couldn’t agree with Paul’s assessment of Katy more! As a matter of fact, I believe I have written at least a dozen post about KP that contain the three adjectives: sassy, stylish and sexy, all of which apply to the first images to surface from the marketing partnership featuring Katy paying tribute to “the 70s inspired Bohemian beauty (bottom), the 50s Glamour classic Hollywood style (below), and the 80s revival of New Wave sassy style (top).” (Click photos to enlarge!)

The pictures were taken by photographer David LaChapelle and feature Katy in various visually stunning surroundings with (of course!) drastically different hairstyles! Although I am always a sucker for Katy in bright colors, I have to confess my favorite image of the three is her as Cleopatrahontas in the “70s inspired Bohemian beauty” shot with shrouded motorcycles. “Teenage Dream” indeed!

And speaking of “Teenage Dream,” Katy’s partnership with ghd includes the company signing on “to become an International Tour Sponsor for Perry’s forthcoming “California Dreams 2011″ tour, [with] plans to involve its talented professional hair stylist ambassadors in concert-related events throughout the world.”

You can keep up with all things ghd, which includes their new Gold Series line of ground-breaking stylers, on the company’s official Facebook page.
