I’ve been reading numerous blogs that are dissing Brit Brit for her fashion statement while out shopping at a Target in Los Angeles yesterday. Sadly, I think my celebrity blogging compatriots are so used to looking at the stars through a microscope that they’re missing the big picture here. Yeah, Britney’s Daisy Dukes and abdomen-revealing purple floral shear top aren’t the usual fashion fair of the celebrity elite like Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Aniston, but Britney is different than those ladies.
Britney is a pop princess, but more importantly she is an American Dream pop princess. She’s that little every-girl from Louisiana with talent and a big dream that actually “made it” and crossed over to the other side. What I like about Britney is that no matter how many number one singles, or top-selling world tours, or Vanity Fair photoshoots she is a part of, she still remains that little country girl from Louisiana that made it big, and I believe that fact is a big reason why she’s been able to maintain her fanbase of devout every-girls that can so easily imagine themselves as Britney Spears. (And that vicarious connection works whether Britney is in the middle of the top grossing concert tour in the world or she has just caved under the pressure of her fame and shaved her head and exposed her hooninny for the world to see.)
So, if Britney wears some teeny-tiny denim cutoff Daisy Dukes, a sheer purple floral top and pink rain boots when she’s shopping at Target, then more power to her! She looks fandamtastic to me! She looks exactly like that girl next door that made it big. Britney is the Princess Diana of the American lower and middle class! And much to her credit, she ascended to her throne by doing a lot more than marrying a prince.
But, even without all the over-intellectualized mumbo jumbo, I think Britney looks great in them itty-bitty jean shotes! Maybe it’s the southern boy in me, but I’d damn sure be askin’ that hot thang to cruise the McDonald’s parking lot in my pickup!
