VIDEO Mel B says the Spice Girls ‘fought like cats and dogs,’ it took years for her to forgive Ginger
Apparently the Spice Girls weren’t all about Girl Power behind closed doors: Mel B revealed the group “fought like cats and dogs.”
Speaking to Larry King last week, the artist formerly known as “Scary Spice” said the women found it increasingly hard to compromise their individual interests for the sake of the group.
“We had a five-year plan that got shortened after three years,” said Mel B, 39. “We always knew Victoria was going into fashion, Mel C was going into music, Emma went into radio, and I wanted to do a bit of everything.”
As for Geri Halliwell, who memorably left the group in the midst of the American leg of their 1998 world tour, Mel B said “it was bad” situation all around.
“She left on my birthday, and didn’t tell anybody,” Mel B said. “Just didn’t show up. We had the rest of the tour.”
Although Mel B admitted that led to a rift between the women “for a long time,” she now understands why “Ginger Spice” left when she did.
“She talks about it to this day that she had a lot of bad eating disorder pressure problems. [Geri] felt the pressure too much, so she decided to take a break.”
The whole group eventually reconciled for a 2008 reunion tour and the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony. Unfortunately, Victoria Beckham later said that was likely her last appearance as Posh Spice because the passion wasn’t there any more.
