Los Pollos Hermanos from Breaking Bad might become a real restaurant
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan did a Reddit AMA on Friday. As is often the case with an AMA, a wide, far-reaching number of topics came up. And one of those is of particular interest to the many fans of the fictional Los Pollos Hermanos fried chicken fast food franchise.
One of the first questions Gilligan got was whether he’d ever thought of opening a real Los Pollos Hermanos. His answer?
Believe it or not… there is talk of a Pollos Hermanos becoming a real restaurant. This is not an idea that I generated personally. But it’s one that’s been presented to me, through the good folks at Sony, and the idea came to them from a businessman who has an interest in doing just that.
Speaking for myself, I’d love to see that happen!
Aside from the endless jokes about meth, a real Los Pollos Hermanos would probably be a decent place to go for a bite. Provided there wasn’t actually any actual meth smuggled in through the ingredients.
On a related note, Gilligan was also asked why he based his Breaking Bad spinoff on Saul Goodman, and not Los Pollos Hermanos CEO and noted meth kingpin Gus Fring:
I have to admit, a spin-off series about Gus Fring would be a good idea. There’s no perfect answer to that question, other than to say that creating a spin-off series related to Saul Goodman was an idea that we batted around pretty much since the creation of the character. We always loved writing for Saul Goodman throughout the run of Breaking Bad. Now we find writing for Jimmy McGill, he’s so good with words that writing his dialogue is great fun, too. But you’re right, Gus could carry his own story. I wish there were more hours in the day, so that we’d be able to do ALL these shows!
So, it seems at least remotely possible that, in the near future, you could pick up a bucket of Los Pollos Hermanos chicken on the way home from work, sit down on the couch with it, and watch the latest episode of Dictators and Laundromats: The Gus Fring Chronicles, while sighing blissfully to yourself.
