John Mayer opens up about not opening up about Katy Perry split

John Mayer and Katy Perry on Halloween

John Mayer has never been too secretive about his relationships, but when it came to Katy Perry he kept things on the down low. The couple rarely acknowledged that they were dating and for them, the red carpet seemed to be off limits. Despite his coy ways, John talked about not talking about their split during a recent appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show.

“It was a very private relationship going in, it was a private relationship during and it’s a private relationship still,” John explains to Ellen of his nearly one year on-and-off romance with Katy. “I know Katy,” Ellen replied, “She is a good friend, and I know that since then, you’re not together anymore and I just want to say, I love you and my thoughts are with you.”

John and Katy split last month for the second time in their brief romance. The first split came last summer just two months after their relationship began.

While John doesn’t divulge any details regarding why they split, he understands why people could think that he’d tell all — especially after he did so when it came to some of his previous relationships. Who can forget John’s infamous rant about his sexual experiences with Jessica Simpson?

“Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm. Did you ever say, ‘I want to quit my life and just f*****’ snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to f*** you, I would startselling all my s*** just to keep f****** you.’”

“I can understand asking the question based on some previous answers I have given, but I have finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and the other,” John explained of his newfound private life. “I’ve been much happier since then.”

“I’m on the same journey as everyone else,” he added. “Coupling is a tricky thing.”
