Ivanka Trump brand dumped by Nordstrom

Nordstrom announced on Thursday that it is going to phase out the selling of Ivanka Trump brand items.

The luxury retailer has faced an immense amount of pressure to distance itself from the Trump name following boycotts based on the rhetoric of her father, President Donald Trump. In the end, however, Nordstrom stated that the decision was based solely on the brand’s poor sales performance.

A Nordstrom spokeswoman told Fortune,  “We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance. In this case, based on the brand’s performance, we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”

In November, Nordstrom’s CEO sent out an email to staff that highlighted the difficulty of selling Trump’s brand. “No matter what we do, we are going to end up disappointing some of our customers. Every single brand we offer is evaluated on their results—if people don’t buy it, we won’t sell it,” he wrote.

Nordstrom tried its best for some damage control by tweeting at the time, “We hope that offering a vendor’s products isn’t misunderstood as us taking a political position; we’re not.”

A vast majority of the Ivanka Trump items that were available via the company’s website have already been removed.
