On Katie this week Lil Wayne, an honor roll student AND high school dropout (though he did get his GED,) gave an order to his fans, AND his children to finish school, even though he doesn’t regret dropping out himself. “I mean, kids, please finish high school. And all my kids, you are finishing high school!” he admonished.
Most kids don’t end up with a lucrative recording contract. It occasionally makes sense for children to drop out of school, but only like 0.000000001% of a time. Wayne revealed that it was his mother who actually suggested that he quit school and get his GED after she found out he was carrying a gun in his backpack for protection.
But back to the kids comment. Just how many children does Lil Wayne have, and who are the babies’ mothers?
In total, Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. has four kids with four different women. He had his first child, his only daughter, Reginae with his first love Antonia “Toya” Wright.
They met outside a corner store in their hometown of New Orleans when they were young teens, and she got pregnant with their child when she was only 14. They got married several years later, in 2004 after Lil Wayne started finding success, but the marriage soon imploded, and they were divorced by 2006. In 2009 Toya appeared on a reality show with T.I.’s wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, and in 2011 she married Mickey “Memphitz” Wright. The couple reportedly have their own reality show in the works.
Sarah Vivan is the mother of Lil Wayne’s second child, son Dwayne Carter III (4.) She met Lil Wayne while he was on tour in Cincinnati, and currently works as a radio personality and producer in Atlanta.
Actress Lauren London had Lil Wayne’s third baby. In 2009 she gave birth to son Cameron Carter, and has defended Lil Wayne in the press as a wonderful dad.
“I met Dwayne when I was 15 years old. I’ve known him a very long time, and we were in a relationship that didn’t make it. We tried more than once to revive it, and we were engaged briefly years ago, but we eventually parted ways. People see the “Lil Wayne” persona and think they know who he really is. My son’s father is an intelligent, loving and lovable person who will always be a dear friend. And that will never change. That is all.”
Lil Wayne’s fourth baby mama is singer Nivea. They have a three-year-old son named Neal Carter, and even recorded a song together.
Nivea has written several songs about their relationship, including “Love Hurts:”
Lil Wayne has said that he takes his role as a father extremely seriously. In 2001 he told Global Grind, “Fatherhood is the most important thing to me; that’s what’s first.” He’s also put his sizzurp days behind him, saying that his doctors told him to quit. “I was doing it too much,” he says. He’s been struggling with some health issues this past year, having several hospitalizations as the result of seizures. He says he may have epilepsy, but that dehydration, lack of sleep, and too much work definitely contributed to his seizures.
The rapper is currently engaged to Dhea Sodana.
