Dr. Conrad Murray sentenced to full 4-years for involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson

Judge Michael Pastor took a hard line following the guilty verdict in the case of Dr. Conrad Murray and the death of Michael Jackson when he denied bail. Many had speculated since then exactly how much time Murray would receive for being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter of the late king of pop.

Well the sentencing is in… The reps for Murray first wanted to block televised or audio broadcast of the sentencing citing Murray’s privacy and the judge ripped ’em a new one citing the fact that the Dr. had been in the process of filming a documentary about the trial. Serious judge burn!

The Jackson family had an attorney and family friend speak on their behalf, Brian Panish. They had a prepared message in which they expressed their sorrow of Michael’s passing and pleaded for the court to pass a judgment to remind doctors that they must remain true to their Hippocratic oath and not sell their services off to the highest bidder while turning a blind eye to their responsibilities.

Dr. Conrad Murray has been sentenced to the full 4-years that was allowed as an option to the judge.  Judge Pastor cited the precedence and importance of criminal negligence, the level of crime in which Murray was found guilty. He flat out stated that Murray was directly responsible for Jackson’s death and cited a “long term failure of character.” He also noted a serious sense of remorselessness on behalf of Murray.

The sentence is a little more severe than what would usually come down for someone in Murray’s position; a man with no criminal history and an otherwise unblemished record. The judge however made it patently clear that he found Murray to be guilty in all senses of that word.

Of course this is American and more importantly California justice so let me summarize exactly what this sentence will mean for Murray. Due to a recently passed law in the late great golden state it’s been known that Conrad would spend no time in federal prison. Time served will be at the L.A. County Jail and even with that the time is automatically cut in half.

Michael’s older brother Marlon flew into LA for the sentencing and stated that he hoped the judge would throw the book at Murray but that final judgment would lay with God.

Do you find the sentencing and the actual manifestation of what that means as far as real time served to be fair in this case? It’s important to remember that the District Attorney is seeking $100,000,000 in restitution on the financial end.
