Complete list of Creative Arts Emmy Awards winners: Game of Thrones, OITNB, True Detective win big
The 2014 Emmy Awards kicked off last night in Los Angeles as statuettes were handed out for the Creative Arts Emmys, which included a lot of technical categories as well as some rather high-profile awards for guest actors, Best Animated Series and several reality programming categories. Taking the early lead in the 2014 Emmy race was Saturday Night Live, which brought home five awards last night including an Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series honor for guest host Jimmy Fallon. Other big winners on the night included Game of Thrones (4), True Detective (4), Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey (4), Sherlock: His Last Vow (4), Deadliest Catch (3), and Orange Is the New Black (3), which included Uzo Aduba winning Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series for her portrayal of fan favorite Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren.
Taking the lead in the network race was perennial Emmy giant HBO, which added 15 more statuettes to its amazing collection, including 4 program awards. Following behind HBO was NBC with 10 Emmys and then PBS (8), Netflix (7), Fox (7), CBS (6), ABC (5), Discovery Channel (4), and Disney Channel (4).
Actress Allison Janney (forever White House Press Secretary C. J. Cregg in my heart!) may need to add a west wing onto her house just to store her awards as she took home her fifth Emmy, Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series, for her role as Margaret Scully in HBO’s Masters of Sex.
And speaking of the Emmy Awards and the West Wing, I wonder if President Barak Obama will get the statuette after his episode of Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis won for Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program? Imagine the controversy that would stir up if during his next Oval Office address you can see his Emmy statuette in the background or even on his desk!
Meanwhile, Starcasm fave Bob’s Burgers had a huge victory by taking home the Outstanding Animated Program Emmy. I’m sure Luise Belcher (seen above on the red carpet) is ecstatic, Gene is composing an epic celebratory Symphony in B flatuation, Linda is pouring on the “Oh Bobby, I’m so proud!” accolades, Bob is figuring out how to glue the statue back together after dropping it backstage and Tina is still recovering from the visual cornucopia of male Hollywood buttage at the event.
A trimmed-down version The Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony will be shown Sunday at 8/7c on FXM. The Primetime Emmy Awards will air Monday, August 25 at 8/7c on NBC.
