CMT’s Party Down South renewed for second season despite contract woes

Party Down South Season 2

The Party Down South will stretch on for another summer!

Announcing the reality show has been renewed for another season, CMT’s Jayson Dinsmore called Party Down South the channel’s “biggest show ever.”

“We knew the series would shake things up at CMT. In addition to ratings success, the show has seen the largest level of social media engagement of any previous CMT series with an incredibly dedicated, impassioned fan base. SallyAnn and 495 Productions are fantastic producers. We are proud and excited to partner with them again in order to keep the party rolling.”

The announcement comes on the heels of last night’s first season finale. The second season will kick off in just two and a half months, indicating the footage is probably from last summer.

According to CMT, the second round of partyin’ “is sure to be the most outrageous yet as there will be more muddin’, funnelin,’ and gettin’ country.”

Despite good ratings, some doubt was cast over the possibility of a second season when the cast members reportedly entered a salary standoff with CMT. According to TMZ, the reality stars agreed to accept $500 per episode payments before the first season, but wanted $7,500 per episode to go forward with the show.

On Wednesday, a source close to the show indicated producers would find some way to make it go on — with or without the original stars.

“It would be a shame for them to walk away from their big break. Fortunately for the viewers, there are plenty of kids in the South.”

Based on CMT’s announcement, it sounds like they all came to agreement.

Party Down South season 2 premieres on Thursday, June 5 at 10/9c.
