Most of you internet-surfin’ whipper snappers probably don’t remember, but back in the day Lee DeWyze was at the center of a worldwide media frenzy after taking home the title of American Idol by beating out a young Crystal Bowersox in the show’s ninth season. Photographers caught up with DeWyze prior to a solo acoustic performance at the Sierra Vista Mall outside of Fresno, California.
Fox’s popular reality talent competition American Idol kicks off its tenth season tonight with the first half of their New York/New Jersey auditions featuring a crew of judges that includes veteran Randy Jackson alongside newcomers Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Jennifer Lopez with Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine serving as the in-house mentor.
Among those who auditioned in the Big Apple is 21-year-old Pia Toscano from Howard Beach, New York. Her unique name may ring a bell among devout Idol fans as she tried out for the show in Season 6 and made it all the way through to the top 40 before being eliminated. One of the leading contenders for the Season 9 American Idol crown is 21-year-old Ashley Makailah Rodriguez of Chelsea, Massachusetts who won her golden ticket to Hollywood with a performance of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You.”

The third installment of the American Idol Season 9 auditions took place in Chicago and brought in thousands of hopeful singers from all over the heartland of the United States. One of those heartland hopefuls was 19-year-old Katelyn Epperly of Des Moines, Iowa.

Everyone is hopping on board the General Larry Platt train after his historical hysterical performance of “Pants On The Ground” during the Atlanta Auditiona of American Idol last week. The latest rider on the train is Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre, who reportedly told receiver Percy Harvin that he would perform the song in the locker room if the Vikings beat the Arizona Cardinals in their NFL playoff match-up.
As you might have guessed, the Vikings did win and showing once again that scruffy white male celebrities honor their wagers (See: Kiefer Sutherland in a dress) Brett Favre lead his team-mates in a rousing rendition of Platt’s “Pants On The Ground.”

General Larry Platt’s “Pants On The Ground” has taken the nation by storm! DJ Larry P performed the showstopper on American Idol Wednesday night and by Thursday morning there were at least three different remixes going viral! (His performance is here too!)
But all that is just plain silliness. It took the great Canadian Grandfather of Grunge Neil Young to reveal the emotional depths of this song. I almost promise his rendition on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon will bring you to tears:
American Idol had it’s fair share of showstoppers during the Atlanta Auditions Episode Wednesday night including the incomparable “Pants on the Floor” and “Mugshot” Skiiboski. But, the real sweetheart of the Idol rodeo was Stephanie Wolfe, the 19-year-old bridge-jumping country girl from Vonore, TN that twanged out a Southern-fried version of Bob Dylan’s “Wagon Wheel.” The judges were instantly smitten by HillBillie Holiday’s pipes and personality, giving her the coveted Golden Ticket!
