Bobbi Kristina blasts Angela Bassett for Whitney Houston biopic casting
Angela Bassett is making her directorial debut with the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic for Lifetime — but didn’t want the star to be similarly unfamiliar with the job duties. For that reason, Angela said she “did not think about” casting Whitney’s daughter.
“She’s not an actress. I know she’s acted here and there. I know she’s been on their family’s reality show, but she’s not an actress and acting is a craft,” Angela told Entertainment Weekly of Bobbi Kristina Brown. “It’s an attempt to illuminate the complexities of human behavior and life. And this is a very fast-paced schedule; we have just 21 days to tell this story. It’s more than just saying lines and turning the light on. You have to drive the story — there’s a technical aspect.”
Bobbi Kristina, who has been critical of the project from the beginning, now seems to be even less pleased.
“Ha MsAng ‘bassketcase’ (sic) has such a damn nerve my lord, at least the world doesn’t mistake me for the wrong sex,” she tweeted on Saturday. She deleted that, but later added, “When I win my first Grammy or Oscar, *Shrugs* hmm whichever comes1st, I’ll be sure 2shout URname out b**ch ! hahUrTestResults= MALE. Lmao”
Similar to Bobbi Kristina, the rest of the Houston family seems to be against the TV movie. However, Angela, who co-starred with Whitney in Waiting to Exhale, said she is isn’t concentrating on the dissenters.
“I’m going to protect it to the best of my abilities,” she said of the movie, which will focus on Whitney and Bobby Brown’s tumultuous relationship. “I’m not going to read those negative comments because everyone has something to say.”
Actress Yaya DaCosta has been selected to play Whitney.
The 31-year-old actress has more than one dozen credits to her name. In contrast, Bobbi Kristina’s only acting credit is for a 2012 episode of For Better or Worse.
