Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating Person 2014 is someone many of us weren’t even aware of in 2013, Amal Clooney (née Amal Alamuddin).
“I guess the question is, ‘What does it take to fascinate one of the most fascinating men in the world?’ She is known primarily through her spouse, and while we know little about her, we know a great deal about him. And he has fascinated many women — especially me,” Barbara said of the esteemed British lawyer who wed George in September. “Everyone said that no one would get George Clooney to the altar. In fact, George Clooney — who had been married briefly in his 20s — said it himself, to me, in 1995.”
Barbara added getting George to propose was one of the “greatest achievements in human history” and said Amal is now “in that stratosphere that we reserve for the Jackie Os, Princess Dis and Kate Middletons.” Do you agree with those statements?
Taylor Swift was Barbara’s second-most fascinating person of the year. The rest of the Top 10 included Scarlett Johansson, Neil Patrick Harris, David Koch, Oprah Winfrey, Chelsea Handler, Michael Strahan, Elon Musk and George R. R. Martin. Unlike many on the list, Amal did not sit down with Barbara for an interview.
