Are Nikki Bella and John Cena getting back together?

Just a few weeks before they were supposed to get married on May 5th of this year Nikki Bella and John Cena split up. The WWE Divas and WWE stars are now on a very public reconciliation journey leading up to the premier of their E! reality show Total Bellas.

A preview video for Sunday night’s season three premiere shows Nikki lamenting that she rarely sees her fiancé John Cena anymore. They dated for six years, but in the months since their engagement, they had only shared a bed for 30 days. This season will show Niki and John’s relationship slowly tear apart.

John appeared on a segment of The TODAY Show Monday where he told Hoda and Kathie Lee that his heart had been broken “out of nowhere.” He said that he still loved Nikki and still wanted to marry her.

He appeared on the show the very next day to further discuss his feelings. “I did what I did yesterday for one person and one person only,” he said. “It’s because I love her. I think, in times of separation, oftentimes you speculate on what the other person is doing, and sometimes communication can get messed up. … It was very important for me to be honest with myself, with you, with all of you (watching), because in turn, that allows me to be honest with Nicole.”

He said that he’s now open to having a family with Nikki and wanted to make sure the public knows he’s not enjoying his single life. “No. I was supposed to be married and have a honeymoon over these (past) two weeks,” he says.

Nicole “Nikki” Bella seems to be open to a reconciliation with John, but she’s definitely playing it more coy. She spoke with Extra about John’s comments on The TODAY Show. At first she was speechless that John wanted to start a family with her, but then she opened up a bit more.

“I’m at a point in my life where I feel like I kind of lost me and I want to work on me. I just want John and I both to live happily ever after, whether it’s together or separate,” she said. She explained that she called off the wedding because she only wants to say her vows once, and “really mean” them when she says them.

These past few weeks since the split Nikki as been staying with her sister Brie Bella and helping her take care of her one-year-old baby Birdie Joe Danielson because Brie’s husband Daniel Bryan is currently on tour.

“It’s been fun to cook with her. I’ve been enjoying morning coffee with her,” Brie told E! News about living with her sister. “It’s nice having a roommate.”

All of this very public relationship storyline seems pretty calculated considering the timing of the new season of their reality show. What do you think? Is their real life relationship drama being spiced up a bit WWE style to get the audience enthralled? Do you think they’ll get back together and start a family?

Update: Nikki Bella has responded to speculation that this public breakup is a publicity stunt. She told ET Canada Live:

“So mine has just been blown up and people all of a sudden are saying that I’m faking it. You’re now saying that my heartache is fake, and that makes it even harder. It’s just like, what can I do right? That’s just really, really tough.”
