What happens in Bali doesn’t stay in Bali. It burrows its way into your chest and makes a beeline across your abdomen, and then spits venom in the wound.
At least, that’s the story Dylan Thomas is telling. The Australian man recently went to Bali for an Indonesian island vacation he hoped he would never forget…for reasons completely different that the ones he has now.
What happened was this: Thomas noticed a red welter on his stomach while on vacation–and, when the wound started to grow and develop a deeper red color, he went to a doctor to see about it. As one does.
The doctor told Thomas he had been bitten by an insect (which was sort of true), gave him some antihistamines, and sent him on his fun-seeking way.
Except, the wound continued to grow, and the pain continued to intensify.
The next day, Thomas went to a nearby hospital. A dermatologist identified the problem, gassed Thomas for surgery, and extracted the venomous spider that had been living under his skin for three full days, leaving red vapor trails like hell’s own jet plane.
Oh, and that intense pain? That was just the spider secreting poison inside Thomas’ body.
The little critter was already dead, though, when doctors removed it. According to the surgical staff, it burrowed its way into Thomas’ body via an appendix scar, before making its way to his sternum.
Said the conquering hero on Facebook:
Well after running tests and putting things inside my stomach they finally found out it was a tropical spider that’s been living inside of me for the last 3 days, managed to get it out luckily.
Thomas’ next adventure? He wants to get a giant Spider-Man tattoo across his chest in commemoration of the event.
